After much discussion, postings and votings (thank you all for your input!) we are ready to present the structure for Season 4. Here's the plan:
Tourneys
There will be 6 tourneys over 6 weeks, beginning at 8AM CDT Wednesday, October 28, 2009, and ending at midnight CDT Tuesday, December 8, 2009. There will be 1 tournament specified for each week of the Season, but the tournaments may be played at any time during the season and in any order the member chooses. A tourney is comprised of two official rounds. An official round occurs when the official password is used to access a posted match. There are no replays of a round, so each official round counts. Exceptions exist for FUN and OBSERVER rounds only, as specified in the WiiGA Rules and Regulations. Matchplay playoffs will follow the regular season and will run for two weeks from Wednesday, December 9, 2009, through midnight CDT Tuesday, December 22, 2009.
Each tournament will be offered in two styles of play, AM and PRO, with corresponding leaderboards. All members may play freely in either or both styles for every tourney. When the Season has concluded all members who completed all six tournaments will be eligible for the PRO and AM matchplay playoffs. The playoffs will be structured in flights based on season rankings so that members compete against other members of similar skill levels. The number of flights will be determined by the number of members who complete all tourneys within a style of play. Details for how the flights will work and for final scoring will be worked out during the Season and announced prior to the start of match play; however, champions for each flight will be identified.
Settings
The following settings will be in force during Season 3:
Miscellaneous
A note about a recommendation the admins received to have one tournament be reserved for using a completely new, unimproved persona instead of a stock character. While we found this to be a truly appealing idea, we decided against including it because it meant that a member might have to delete an active, developed persona from their system, given the small limit of 4 slots. Hence, we will again use a stock character for one tournament in Season 4.
A second note about Lab sign-ups. That poll was extremely close. And although more voters asked for one slot than for 2, the combined count of those who wanted 2 slots plus those who wanted no limit was greater than the count for one slot. As a compromise, we are posting for two slots to start the season, but will watch what's happening closely. As the season progresses, if there seems to be a need for further limits, we'll open it up for more discussion. Then we'll re-evaluate at the end of this season to see if we should continue next season, restrict sign-ups to one per week, or remove any restrictions at all. So keep telling us what you want!
Finally, we recognize that there has been and remains interest among the members in handicapping. I would like to ask members interested in trying to define how handicapping might work for Season 5 to send me a PM. I will form a small group of members from the volunteers and charter the group to consider the question and make recommendations.
Let me or any of the admins know if you have questions. See you on the links!

Settings
The following settings will be in force during Season 3:
- All matches are 18 holes and Unranked.
- Any putting style will apply to all tournaments, AM and PRO
- Members may use their personal profile or any stock profile they wish for 5 of the 6 regular season tourneys. One tourney will have a designated stock profile that all members must use.
- Tourney courses will be selected randomly from the entire list of courses, minus the courses used during Seasons 2 and 3.
- Online settings such as green speed, fairway speed, rough length, weather and wind will be selected randomly. However, if rain is selected once, it will not be selected again; and rain will be excluded from selection for the tourney selected for stock profile. All such settings will apply to both AM and PRO styles for each tourney.
- For the stock profile tourney, the profile selected will apply to both AM and PRO styles.
- AM local Options settings are Standard swing, AHOs on, Spin On, Putt Preview On, Putt Meter On (normal settings).
- PRO local Options settings are Advanced swing, AHOs off, Spin Off, Putt Preview Off, Putt Meter On. Advanced swing must be re-established online at the start of each round before teeing off on the first tee by pressing + and changing to Advanced swing in Options while on the tee. Each member is responsible for having the correct settings throughout the entire match. If a member discovers that his/her settings are incorrect during a match, the member is obligated to complete the match but to take a penalty of 6 strokes. In the tradition of golf, each member is responsible for his/her own compliance.
Miscellaneous
- You may practice a tourney and the different settings as much as you like. It is recommended that you use the Practice thread and the password wiigap to set up practice rounds with other WiiGA members.
- All 6 tourneys must be completed in either or both styles by December 8, 2009, to count in the standings. There will be no extensions in Season 4.
- All 6 tournament specifications for both AM and PRO styles will be posted by midnight CDT, Tuesday, October 27.
- We encourage members to augment Season 4 by setting up their own tourney events in the Laboratory. The Laboratory will have a sign-up sheet with two sign-ups per week possible. However, tourneys may run longer than one week, so more than two Lab tourneys may be running at one time.
- HAVE FUN!!!
