I would also like to make a simple comment to all WiiGA members in regards to saving your data on an SD card. I always overdo this kind stuff but I usually save my TW09 data to an SD card about once a month.
Then I bring my SD card to my computer and save it in a sub-folder with that days date as the name of my folder.
It could save you a lot of work having to take challenges over, re-purchasing items, selecting clubs, club tuning etc.. If you simply save your data now and then, it is not that time consuming and is well worth the trouble.

I wondered about this. J, have you tried taking one of the saved files from the computer, transfering it back onto the sd card, and transferring it back to the wii? (As always, this process requires you to delete the existing TW09 file on the wii before transferring the back-up from the sd card.) Does this work as expected, or does the wii somehow disrupt or corrupt this kind of transfer? If it does work, it would reduce the number of sd cards needed to maintain multiple backups! I never tested this. I had just assumed the file saved to the computer is purposely altered in some way due to differences in the Operating System and/or as some form of copyright protection (as I would think are, for example, additional songs purchased online for Guitar Hero World Tour.) It would be great if this TW09 type of Wii file is just a standard data file!

Twist
I believe this works. Just once the files are on the computer, do not open them up. You might corrupt them. I have saved them to my computer, reformatted the sd card and then put back in the Wii and transferred the game files back onto the card and everything seemed to work fine.

The data saved is a bin file. Data is data but it would be better if you did not open it while it is in your computer. Once opened, it is vulnerable but so is any other data you open. Make sure your computer has good internet and virus security.

Hey Twist,
There is a directory structure on your SD card after you save to the card. If you simply maintain that directory structure when you copy back to the SD card for your Wii, it works fine. I have about 8 different saves on my PC, each in a folder with that days date as the name of the folder.
In the folder named 'My Documents' on my PC I created a new folder named 'Wii Saved', then I make a sub-folder each time I do a save using that days date as the name of my folder. For Example: '04-16-09'.
When I copy from my SD card I make my new folder, then I click on the drive letter for my SD card and press 'ctrl A' to select all (this selects any files and sub-folders on your card), then I press 'ctrl S' to copy (puts all that was selected into a 'copy set'), then I click on my new folder on my PC and simply press 'ctrl V' to paste everything into my new folder. This will create any sub-folders automatically.
The directory structure for TW09 on the SD card are as follows:
Removable Disk (E:) (could be any letter depending on your PC) private wii title R9TE (location of save file)
The file in the folder R9TE is named 'data.bin'
You can actually open this file and examine the data, which I have done. It is nothing that I can make sense of so my dreams of an attribute increase to 21.0 for power were quickly squashed. Imagine how many AHO's you'd get if your LUCK was at 21.0 or higher. I WOULD NOT EDIT THIS FILE, that is if you speak ASCI characters and understand all those symbols.
The actual reason I went into this file was to see if I could merge my frinds profile golfer into this data so he would have his built character on my system, no chance of making that happen.
I once read a thread about XBOX systems where this is actually possible. Why doesn't Nintendo have a way to copy a friends character onto another system ?

Thanks for the info guys. I had assumed I would have to use an image backup program or some such hassle. I had avoided messing with the sd card for fear of hosing the game data. None of my other devices (phones, cameras) use the old sd format, and I didn't want to get more small capacity cards just for experimenting with TW09 on the wii.

Another question, Today I bought a second wii for the house and I know I have read somewhere how to transfer mii' to another console but forgot how.

An SD card is a small card that fits in the front slot and is limited to 2GB for the WII. These cards run about $10 and are the same as what is used in digital cameras. There is usually a card reader slot on a PC or if not you can use a card reader attached to a USB port for saving to your PC.
Good protection as I lost 3 weeks of skill building recently, so I now use 2 cards and alternate back ups to each and save to PC.

While in your Wii menu there will be a Wii icon in the lower left. Click on it.
Then click on Data Management - Save Data - Wii at the top right there will be a tab for Wii and SD card if you have it in. Click on the Wii tab.
The screen will show all the icon of your saved Wii game info, The square with the big red 10 is TW10. Click on it and you will be asked what you want to do. Click on save and then save data to SD card.
Done
Now if you want to re-save over a previous copy then you will have to select the SD tab and then the TW icon and deleted it first. Then go back and save a described above.

Sounds too easy! Now, can I take the SD card to a friends house and use my profile to play him and his profile, on his Wii?

Sounds too easy! Now, can I take the SD card to a friends house and use my profile to play him and his profile, on his Wii? Sorry moman Its all or nothing. You either use what he has on his console or you replace it with your information and use what you have built up. If you are going to use your info, make sure you back up his data first to a separate SD card so that you can reload it when you are done. Otherwise he will beat you with a 1 iron. The best way to do this if you are going to get together allot is for one of you to build up a second player. A pain I know but thats the game as it exists. The jokker has 4 full profiles for his Friends but he is an animal. I can't even get one finished completely. Maybe he will lend me one. Another way you could do it is use 2 TV's and 2 wii's and play online. Putterrr

The quick and simple answer is YES. The CAUTIONS and DANGER will take more. I believe the SD backup is a total game info file, and not a group of individual players files. So great care should be taken when you put your SD card into a friends Wii console, otherwise your info could overwrite whatever TW info that person already has. i haven't needed to do this myself, so i'll stop there. i hope others who have done this will chime in with better instruction. great point IB. YOU DON"T WANT TO ERASE YOUR FRIENDS DATA!! putterr, has always been able to explain the SD card stuff very well here and also on EA. i have one thing to add and to do this u need 2 SD cards.
if you are planning to play your profile on someone else's wii and that person has TW 10 data saved on his wii you need to FIRST save his data on an different SD card (so he can put it back when your done and wont lose it forever!!) then insert your SD card and load your info. hope this helps, johnny

Thanks guys for all the info. I had a little trouble finding this thread. You guys make it sound easy, so, now I've saved my info to the SD card, how do I get it back on the Wii? (just in case I need it)

Unless my Wii is different, you have to delete the TW game info from your wii memory before you can copy from the SD card.
Make sure you know what you are doing or have a second backup before deleting your wii data. Once its gone, you cannot recover it without a backup from an SD card.
