I bought a $17.99 set on Component cables to pug into my new 50" Plasma and here is what i noticed.
#1. The text screens were A LOT clearer. There seemed to be less pixelation of the small numbers that show on your score card.
#2. While zooming into a shot at the green with....lets say a 5I, it seemed easier to see the slops of the green your shooting at.
#3. The whole motion fluidity of the game seemed to get a boost. When i first hooked up the Wii to the flat screem there seemed to be a slight lag it the swing. It didnt affect any thing, it just was something i noticed and now with the Component cables its much better.
#4. There is a draw back i found. Your character will look.......what the word......the best way i can think to explain it is "blocky" lol. Its not the cables fault here but the higher quality picture highlights the lack of definition that the game puts to your character. With composite (red, white, yellow) cables it kind of glossed over this problem but with the component (red, white, red, green, blue) cables its more noticeable. This is in no way a game breaker though.
#5. On other games i play the diference was amazing. On 007 Quantim of Solice the game play was smoother and crisper. On Wii Sports Resort it just plain look great.
In conclusion. Were the cables worth the $17.99. YESSSSSSSS. I bought after market (3rd party) cables. The official Wii cables range from $30-$40 in stores and they MIGHT get you an even better picture but i dont know. That is up to you what you want to get. Ive heard that the Wii cables can be found for as low as $6 on EBay.

Ahh some good info there 2tall ! I checked it out on Ebay and you can get them pretty cheap. They however they are "generic". Some generic products seem better than the brand name products that you pay out the wazoo for. An example would be buying cheap Walmart paper plates as opposed to buying " dixie" paper plates. Its something you are going to use once and throw away. Why pay big bucks for a brand name. Does it make the food taste any better? NOPE - ken

Lee When you hook a wii to a HDTV you need to go to the wii settings menu and change the screen setting to 16:9 in stead of 4:3. When you get Component cables (5 prong) in stead of composite cables (3 prong) you need to go into settings and change it........i dont remember the exact area but its under "screen"...... from 480i to 480p. That is the most the wii can produce, 480p. After you have your wii settings set you can fudge with your TV settings. Some TVs have a "Game" default setting that sometimes helps.

Got it. Was my mistake. Changed TV settings to 16:9 and Auto Format to "No". Works fine now. Lee

The Widescreen Settings is at Standard (4:3) what will I see with Widescreen (16:9) Sorry for my teckie ignorance Fire

Im going of memory here so the exact names of the menu may be off but to change your wii from 4:3 to 16:9 you got to setting> screen> widescreen settings. Once your here you click on "widescreen 16:9" then hit comfirm. This MUST be done first before you change your resolution settings.
To get the wii to produce 480p instead of 480i you go settings> screen> TV resolution. If you have set the wii to 16:9 you will now be able to click on the "EDTV or HDTV 480p" box. (If the wii was set to 4:3 that box would have been grey and unable to be clicked.) click the "EDTV or HDTV 480p" box and hit confirm. Thats it for the wii side. You may have to go into your TV options to change the Input settings. Something like "component 1" of what ever input slot you Wii is hooked up to. And set it for 16:9 also.

TwoTall your memory was spot on but I still can't get EDTV or HDTV to enable. Looked at my tv settings and there are no 16:9 settings for each components hookup. I did a little homework and think I need the component cables over the composite ones for that box to enable. My question now is the composite cables have three wires and the component cables have five and the cable coming out of the Wii has three so is there an adapter that goes on the three wire Wii cable or does the new five wire component cable go in place of the old three wire composite cable in the back of the Wii? Wow what a mouthful. Who's on 1st, What's on 2nd, etc. ;D Hope I made sense Fire

LOL Ohhhh ya You need to buy/get Wii component cables (five prong) I bought some after market ones for $17.99 and Shopko. The 480p wont enable unless you have the 5 prong ones plugged into your wii.
The 5 prong will replace the 3 prong ones and will plug directly into your wii in the same spot

£2.85 ($5) on Ebay in Britain with free postage.
Read posts yesterday, ordered of ebay, delivered this morning, had a round at Harbour Town
Sky bluer, grass greener, ducks louder but the score still c__p.
Use the Wii for a quick check on the web quite often, Much easier to read, colors better, red text on black can be read (fuzzy before). Worth it just for that.
Needed to increase brightness slightly.
Thanks for the tip guys.

Jim I of course wasn't thrifty like my Brit bud and went right out to Best Buy and bought a Rocketfish cable for $25.99 (the Nintendo one was more money) but as soon as I came to the first screen with Tiger in his red shirt and his arms raised and fists clenched screamin' to the sky it was worth it. Everything looked so much crisper EXCEPT my avatar which looks like FireImpressed
