Hey All,
I missed you guys. I haven’t died, I haven’t been sick, I haven’t bailed on the WiiGa but I lost my girlfriend last Saturday. I was shutting down my laptop and there was 13 updates from Microsoft. I was surprised there was that many because I have it set to automatic updates but none the less I though nothing of it. I took Mom out to dinner and when I got back I turned it on and got the dreaded “blue screen.” My girlfriend was saying “NO” to me. I’m embarrassed to say I hadn’t backed up in sometime so I was “sick” with all the files I was about to lose. I will tell you that I was very lucky although exhausted staying up to 2:00 AM a couple of nights transferring files from the hard drive to an external drive. How times have changed, since I forget what version of DOS (v4.0, v5.0 ??) I was weaned on. There’s this little thing called a hard drive enclosure kit for SAPA drives to USB “Praise the Lord I’m saved.” I was able to get 95% of my pics, excel files, APBA files (I’m a commish) and Quickbook files. As of today I am just about back up and running.
A couple of questions to you teckie people, First is there a virus that is out there that is disguised by a Microsoft update box? I googled it and found nothing but now I’m afraid to enable automatic updates. Secondly, What’s an easy backup program that I can get to backup a complete hard drive that will work exactly the way it did before it crashed? One that will eliminate what I just had to go through. Format drive, load operating system, load all up to date drivers, load all add on programs and not to mention having to put up with multiple Microsoft updates that has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Sorry for not TW content but let’s face it, It all begins here. (the computer) Without it how do I get into the chat room to talk to you “goonies?”
