Announcing Season 6 of the WiiGA!
March 15th is almost here, so here are the specs for Season 6. Tourneys will be posted by midnight tomorrow night.
Tourneys
There will be 5 tourneys over 5 weeks, beginning at 8AM CST Monday, March 15, 2010, and ending at midnight CST Sunday, April 18, 2010.
There will be 1 tournament specified for each week of the Season, but the tournaments may be played at any time during the season and in any order the member chooses.
A tourney is comprised of two official rounds. An official round occurs when the official password is used to access a posted match.
Each tournament will be offered in two styles of play, AM and PRO, with corresponding leaderboards. All members may play freely in either or both styles for every tourney.
There are no replays of a round, so each official round counts. Exceptions exist for FUN and OBSERVER rounds only, as specified in the WiiGA Rules and Regulations.
When the Season has concluded all members who completed a minimum of 8 rounds (you may complete all 5 tournaments, 10 rounds in total but only your best 8 scores will count towards your final standing) in either or both of the PRO and AM tourneys will be eligible for the PRO and AM matchplay playoffs.
A minimum of 8 rounds must be completed by the deadline for a player to be eligible for the playoffs. Only players recording official scores for 8 rounds of a tourney style will be entered in the playoffs flights for that style.
Matchplay Playoffs
The playoffs will be structured in flights based on season rankings so that members compete against other members of similar skill levels and within the same style of play. We will be returning back to flights of approximately 8 depending on the number of players available. New to season 6 will be a consolation bracket for those knocked out in round 1 of the playoffs. There will also be a playoff for third place. This ensures that all players who make the playoffs will play at least 3 rounds. Please see the post outlining the specifics of the consolation bracket and third place playoff here: http://wiigatour.proboards.com./index.cg....ead=2483&page=1.
The number of flights will be determined by the number of members who complete all tourneys within a style of play. Champions for each flight will be identified and receive champion awards. Details for how many flights for each style and how many rounds within flights will be worked out following the end of regular season play and announced between April 18 and April 20, 2010. Matchplay will run from the time of pairings announcement through midnight CST May 9, 2010.
Sign-ups will be required to play in the play-offs. A courtesy PM will be sent to all members who complete at least 8 rounds.
Deadlines will be set for each round of play when pairings are announced. Players are required to both post tee time requests in the Playoff Tee Time thread and to send PMs to their opponents working out tee times for each round of the playoffs. This establishes a record of attempts to set up matches. Players who are non-responsive and cause a pairing to miss a deadline for completion will be disqualified by the Tournament Committee and their opponent allowed to move ahead to the next round. Rulings about disqualifications by the Tournament Committee are final.
In case of ties related to the playoffs, the following rules will apply:
* Rank ties for seeding from the regular season will be resolved by coin toss done by an Admin. An example: if 2 players have the same total points and are both seeded in eight place, a coin will be tossed. This will determine which player goes to the bottom seed of the higher flight and which player goes to the top seed of the lower flight. This will apply to any and all tied ranks.
* Tied playoff rounds at the end of 18 holes will also be resolved per USGA rules. Essentially, the match play tie resolution is sudden death through the continuation of the playoff from the 1st hole of the same course. The match continues, hole-by-hole, until an advantage is gained by one player. That player shall be declared the winner.
Settings
The following settings will be in force during Season 6:
* All matches are 18 holes and Unranked.
* Any putting style will apply to all tournaments, AM and PRO
* Members may use their personal profile or any stock profile wish. There will be no tournament this season enforcing the use of a designated stock player.
* Tourney courses will be selected randomly from the entire list of courses, minus the courses used during Season 5.
* Online settings such as green speed, fairway speed, rough length, weather and wind will be selected randomly. However, rain will not be used in season 6. Gale force winds will be excluded from all tournament settings in season 6. All such settings will apply to both AM and PRO styles for each tourney.
* AM local Options settings are Standard swing, AHOs on, Spin On, Putt Preview On, Putt Meter On (normal settings).
* PRO local Options settings are Advanced swing, AHOs off, Spin Off, Putt Preview Off, Putt Meter On.
Advanced swing must be re-established online at the start of each round before teeing off on the first tee by pressing + and changing to Advanced swing in Options while on the tee.
Each member is responsible for having the correct settings throughout the entire match. If a member discovers that his/her settings are incorrect during a match, the member is obligated to complete the match but to take a penalty of 6 strokes. In the tradition of golf, each member is responsible for his/her own compliance.
Miscellaneous
* You may practice a tourney and the different settings as much as you like. It is recommended that you use the Practice sub-board of the Bulletin Board and the password wiigap to set up practice rounds with other WiiGA members. Please reserve the Tournament Tee Times sub-board and the tournament password for official matches.
* The minimum of 8 rounds must be completed in either or both styles by April 17th, to count in the standings. There will be no extensions in Season 6.
* All 5 tournament specifications for both AM and PRO styles will be posted by midnight CST, Sunday, March 14th.
* We encourage members to augment Season 6 by setting up their own tourney events in the Laboratory. The Laboratory will have a sign-up sheet with two sign-ups per week possible. However, tourneys may run longer than one week, so more than two Lab tourneys may be running at one time.
* All members are expected to have reviewed the WiiGA Rules and Regulations and the About the WiiGA document on the Rules and Regulation board before beginning play for Season 6.
* HAVE FUN!!!
The Tournament Committee will have more on sign-ups for member tourneys soon.
