Sure have enjoyed reading the posts as I try to improve my game! Question involves short putts with lots of slope and break. At times I will 4 or even 5 putt when I have a good round going. I am maxed 100 per cent in putting. But all of a sudden the putter seems to change on these tough putts. Is this a way the gm brings you back down to earth, or are these putts that sensitive on short tuffies. Not sure if my question is clear.....maybe I just really need to concentrate on these kind of putts. Thanks for any help and look forward to playing you guys when I get a better game goin!

On the short tricky putts the margin for error is MUCH greater than a longer, flatter putt.Plus if you miss a short tricky (downhill, severe slope etc.) the penalty for missing is usually much greater than a long flat putt. You could have started with a 2 foot downhill, sidehill putt and end up with a 6 or 7 foot uphill, sidehill putt.Best advice is practice using the putt preview and try to get it spot on.If it's off a little bit thats OK..minor adjustments are a lot easier than major ones on putts.Good Luck and GO DUCKS!

I can solve your putting problem that you described if you are using precision putting. The same solution may apply to clasic but maybe not to the same degree. Let me know which putting style before i spell out the solution.
Since I learned this technique I don't think I have missed one of the short toughies you mentioned.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I use Precision Putting...no MP (yet!)

Okay here it is.
The putts you are describing are the roughly 20% to the hole or about 4 to 5 feet with a little or alot of break.
Let's assume you have a putt that shows 18% to the hole and it is breaking hard from right to left. Aim your shot to the right side (the high side) of the cup. then move your marker to about 30% or even 35%. Check the putt preview. If it shows it is going in (as long as you hit the % shown when you did the putt preview)..it will! Basically I use 25% for moderate breakers and start to the inside edge on the high side of the cup, and increase to 30% for mid level break. But for those nasty intensely fast breaking putts I go to the outside edge and bump it to 35%...in all cases use the putt preview to confirm. If it shows it in then hit it. If it is missing low add more power, or if it is missing on the high side go with 5% less power.
Once you make about 20 straight putts you will get the feel so you can duplicate the success even without the benefit of putt preview.
Let me know if this is unclear and I will try to improve on the description. If it is clear and you try it without the same success I have had then let me know what did or didn't work and we can fine tune the concept after you report the results.
I will be shocked if this doesn't cure the problem.
Good luck and have fun! Jeffro

Jeffro uses my same technique, give it some more boost and it wont break much,so you can aim it just outside the hole, maybe even inside.its says 25% give it 35%, change your aim closer to the hole, and it should fall in.

Jeffro,
Thanks so much for taking the time to detail this. I will print out and do some experimenting!! Its weird, in the 3rd rd I got none of these kind of putts in my 2nd tournament as a pro in career mode. I shot 55 and now lead Tiger by 8 going into the last round. In the 1st 2 rds I had about 2-3 holes where I 4 putted for triple bogey! Obviously my approaches were better in round 3, or pin placement was easier. Thanks again!!

No problem-Glad to help out a fellow Oregonian. I grew up in Portland and most of family is still there. I went to Wilson High School. Half my friends went to U of O...the other half are Beavers fans...I like the Ducks better. I actually met Steve Prefontaine at the stadium when I was about 10....before the whole Nike thing ;D Let me know if the technique I learned for Longhitter works for you Jeffro
