Long drives are fairly simple when you understand the 4 variables that go into the length of your drives. I will explain all 4 variables and then explain what I do about each of them. Since we all have our own unique playing style, you may set yours a bit different.
1) Build up your character completely, 100% in all categories plus bonus percentage although the power attribute is the only one that affects the length of your drive. Earn skill points from the challenges and PGA tour events, then apply those points to your attributes until you max out your attributes. You can increase your bonus percentages by purchasing a swing type and by going to the pro shop to purchase items with a bonus multiplier. It takes some time to search through all the items to find the points you need. It takes four (level 4) bonus items to achieve a 10% bonus multiplier for that attribute. You can also use two items with a (level 2) bonus multiplier to equal a (level 4) bonus multiplier, or a (Level1) and a (level 3). I have found the bonus multiplier for power to be the most difficult of the attributes to get to a full 10% multiplier, thus bringing your power to 110%.
2) Select a better angle for the face of your driver. Since your player defaults to the 10.5 degree driver you need to go ‘In the Bag’ and select a different driver with a better angle for long shots. I have tested all the club angles and I have found that the 8.5 degree driver has the best distance so this is the one I use.
3) Buy the best driver you can get, the $20,000 EA Gold series is good but I use the $30,000 EA Diamond series clubs. It does make a difference, I have tried several of the level 4 clubs and prefer the EA Diamond series.
4) Tune your Driver in the ‘Club Tuner’ to get a higher loft and more power. There are 3 areas in the club tuner that affect the length of your drives, Power, Loft & Spin. Below I will describe each of these, what they do and how to set them.
a) Power - Obviously this is the power of your drive. Be careful with this one, to much power will make you shank your ball more easily, turn it up just a little at a time as you get used to it. You may need to adjust your Draw/Fade a bit when you increase your power. My power is at about 90%. I figure the extra distance to max out my power is not worth the risk for occasional shanked drives.
b) Loft - This increases the height of your ball travel. The higher the loft, the longer the shot will be. A higher loft will also help you get over trees much better. I have my loft set to maximum.
c) Spin - When you increase your spin you will get a little more distance as well. This is the natural spin of your ball when driving. Increase the spin to get more natural ball roll on the fairway or green when the ball touches down. I turn my Spin all the way down to 0% because I want my ball to STICK when it lands for better control. I use only the manual spin while the ball is in flight if I need spin.
