Hey everyone, new guy here been playing TW since 09. Just got 11 for Father's Day and am still working through the skills challenges.
I have a question about the lie indicator. When looking the ball there is a yellow dot that you can drag either high or low on the ball showing your lie. I don't understand what this dot signifies or why you can move it.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Thanks!

The yellow dot you are talking about has to do with loft..or where on the ball you are striking it..however you want to look at it.Most people around here refer to it as changing loft. You can add or subtract loft to any shot.Moving the yellow dot down is ADDING loft..less distance.Moving the yellow dot up is decreasing loft..adding distance. This is a very basic explanation..if you want more specific details just let us know..glad to try and explain this whole LOFT thingy!! lol

jpoppa, That is the loft indicator... You can pull it up to reduce loft on the shot, or push it down to increase loft. As an alternate method, you can hold the B button and click left or right to change loft, and up or down to change clubs... Just be careful to not accidentally start your swing Peace, SkinniePost Note: For driver, woods and irons... Both increasing and decreasing loft reduces distance of shot. But with wedges and pitch shots decreasing loft actually adds distance to your shot.

Great thanks guys. Seemed a little weird to me as if you aim at the top of the ball you will "top" it and drive it straight into the ground and bounce it embarrassingly about 20 feet in front of you...Something my real golf game has seen happen more times then I'd like to admit!
So, going further, does adding loft on a given shot take away distance? Will the aiming target reflect the change?
Thanks again!

hola jpoppa!
Along with adding/decreasing loft on drivers, woods, irons, wedges, you can also do it with the putter.
For putting..............
If you add loft (move the yellow dot up), you get about 2 feet more on a putt. If you deloft it ( move it down), it slows the ball speed down. This is great for downhill putts. I use it alot when I play pro sets because I am unsure if I have the putt lined up correctly.

Thanks for the info Kenw, so, if I check the putt preview and it shows the ball going in the cup and i put backspin on it..it will probably wind up short?
I guess I'm just not seeing the advantage of doing something like that...I mean, it sounds like a pool shot...in real golf would you ever want to put anything but a little top spin on your putt?

No..the aiming circle will not change when you change loft on any particular shot. That is what you are adjusting your loft too..the aiming circle for any particular club with a 100% power swing.

nice avatar, I used that before. I use classic putting and hit at 100% power. So if my preview shows the ball coming up short, I will add loft(move the yellow dot up) to get a little extra distance so it goes in the hole. This is better than taking it a club and running the risk of running over the cup. - ken

OIC..I use precision putting so I can't see that really helping me too much...

Heads up Jpoppa... I also use precision, and sometimes when you have a putt below 15-18% it is really hard to get that percent (like 8% for example, which can be required on a medium length downhill putt on fast greens). So using backspin in that case allows you to hit 20%, but only travel 10% or so... Keep asking the questions man, I promise you will get the answers
