BAGS v WIIGA
THE 2012 GIACOMO CUP RESULTSBAGS | RESULT | WIIGA | FIRESTRICKER | v. | MOTNOLA | JIMBOB59 | v | TMANGROVE | DADGOTGAME | v | DAVSKI | BILLSEIKO | v | DAVIDDUVAL | KKRASH11 (TW11) | v. | JOECOOL (TW11) | THEMASTER1 | v | OREGONDUCKS | PRIORSCAT | v | KENW | STUKENNY | v | WAYKNOW | DOMINO66 | v | ZACH31 | COSMICSHEEP | v | TAZMAN52 | FRENCHY49 | v | DUDE1956 | MARK1772 | v | KRYPTONITE |
Fellow WiiGA and BAGS members, Here ye here ye. With the ok from the higher mucky mucks Motorola and I started opening ceremonies a little early. With FireStricker and Motnola on the top of the G Cup head to head matches this sick man thought it was appropriate we be the first combatants to test the waters. With the game scheduled for Wednesday and sadly postponed (due to rain in Greece some say ) to Thursday morning the BAGS locker room was frequented by an old decrepit senior drinking those bloody cosmo's all night. Little sleep in anticipation for the yearly "Big Match" FireStricker moses into the WiiGA chat at 9:45 est this morning with the ever friendly Motnola. Having only played him a few times and now a dreaded "TPX player" brother to Dude1956 visions (nightmares) of opponents balls thumper or just out of thumper range nestled beside the pin every hole. We exchange pleasantries and decided to go out and "rumble." At 9:30 am est, Costa Navarino weather per The Weather Channel was 48 degrees Fahrenheit with partly cloudy skies with wind from the north at 5mph. SWEET, No rain in the forecast like yesterday. With dc's yesterday running rampant in BAGS chat I guess I wasn't surprised the game lost communication before hooking up but luckily it turned out to be an equipment malfunction. Motnola's batteries were near dead. Ditto to the first site of rain on hole 1. I coyly saw Oh boy RAIN. With soft greens and rain my dreaded long iron game improves substantially. Hole 1.. More times than not, I sometimes rush my swing on the first hole and a wicked fade deposits that ball into the black hole of stupidity. Both drives good and a wedge by me to the pin gives me an easy putt. Motnola leaves himself a long putt and when it is well short I'm figuring he's not thinking soft greens and with the rain?? Being a good sport (ya right), I tells Motnola the greens are soft and go to hole 2, 1UP. Hole 2.. Good drives but the 6 MPH head winds leave us both with pitches to the pin. Another missed putt by Motnola gives the senior a 2Up early lead. Hole 3.. With sugar plums in my head thinking of the KenW match where the first holes had a huge part in determining the winner that time Motnola cleared that thought by matching my birdie. Hole 4.. Good drives and 2 thumpers notch birdies. Hole 5.. A Motnola gift rapped lipped putt for par ups the lead to 3Up. Hole 6.. Ahh the coveted 6th hole. A little schooling from Captain Mark nets the old coot a thumper while Motnola just catches the bunker. The eagle ups the ante to 4UP. Hole 7.. Talking to himself "Greens are flat here so please hit the mat somewhere." Wonder if Motnola was saying the same thing because unfortunately for me his found it to tie the hole. Hole 8.. A Motnola "cat box trip" netted him a par to my birdie to extend the lead to 5Up. Hole 9.. Another Captain Mark suggestion here produced that sweet sound "Thump, Thump, Thump" but Motnola stole that thunder when he dropped his putt. Hole 10.. Reminiscent of the KenW match the turn "bite me" with my putting disappearing but I was fortunate as Motola disappeared worse than mine. I won't say what we got for scores but when the dust, oh sorry, the rain in the eyes settled/disappeared I was on top. Fire 6UP Hole 11.. Motnola capitalizes on a another missed putt to close the game to 5UP. Hole 12.. Bad thought, Bad thoughts were creeping in now. Two clicks two much puts me in the trap but low and behold Motnola is beside me to ease the pain. We both get up and down for birdie. Hole 13.. I watches Motnola's birdie putt and an instant after mine dropped we got the dreaded "no communication to your opponent" on the screen. Both said WTH and agreed to play the B9 again. I asked him if he saw my birdie putt drop and he said yes and we agreed to start at hole 14 with me leading 5UP and him DORMIE. Motnola says he's going to take his M+ off if I didn't mind because he thought this tourney was a Tour Pro event. Feeling horrible for Motnola I said yes and continued on. Hole 14.. Same result for me as hole 9. Thank you Captain Mark. Happily, not for Motnola as he pars to give me a 6 and 4 win. Holes 15 -18.. We go stroke for stoke. (In fact we nearly go stroke for stroke the whole B9) After the match I asked Motnola if he'd like a rematch but he graciously took his licks and said it was his mistake and let the round stand. We agreed to do a fun match tomorrow to see how he'd fare against me the second time. Motnola as always a true gentlemen. Thank you for the match sir.

We agreed to do a fun match tomorrow to see how he'd fare against me the second time. Motnola as always a true gentlemen. Thank you for the match sir. Score confirmed, and good write up Fire. I need to apologize to my WiiGA teanmates, as I showed up for an AM knife fight armed with a TPX scheese sandwich. I had not realized that this cup was all AM, which I had not played in months. That was my mistake and I'm sorry about that. I had my M+, precision putting and trueview settings and that's no contest against pure AM. That's not the only explanation, of course, I also made some bad shots while Fire had some of the most tricky shots dialed in. The round was a bit more even after we restarted the back nine and I changed wiimotes to M- and AM swing settings, but by then it was all over but the crying. Nice win Fire. We'll do a friendly in all AM just to see if I can lose by a few strokes instead of a dozen. Motnola

zachf31 for WiiGA defeats Domino666 for BAGS, 4 and 2 Match summary: We both birdied the first two holes, but I spun my approach shot off the green on #3 to go down by one after Dom eagled. I tied it back up on #4 with a birdie after dom missed the green, and then went 2 up after eagle on the D4 6th and on the par 5 7th. We went shot-for-shot on holes 8 through 11, and on the par 5 12th I eagled and went 3 up while Dom's approach was just short of the green. We both eagled the hard D4 15th, and on dormie at #16 I eagled to his birdie to win 4 and 2. Now hopefully WiiGA can pull out a few more wins to win the cup again

Frenchy & myself got together and played our match out today.
After 2 failed attempts at connecting we finally hooked up. I managed to go 1 up on #3 when Frenchy just missed his eagle putt. I gave it right back on #4 when I drove into the rough & missed the green on my 2nd shot.
We went shot for shot after that until #14 when I missed the green on my tee shot and gave up another hole on #15 giving Frenchy 2 up.
Frenchy played solid the whole way and showed why he is 1 of the top players. Great match Frenchy & thanks for the fun.

DavidDuval def. BillSeiko 5 & 4
I just had a great match with BillSeiko from BAGS. I'll admit I was a little rusty, and it took me a bit to get going, but I enjoyed every minute of it, and I think Bill did too. Great match Bill!
Thanks to the WiiGA for allowing me to compete. I always enjoy representing the club anytime and really love playing the club matches. Really a breath of fresh air compared to sim. Good luck to all competitors.

Mark1772 vs Kryptonite66I won 1up. This was a real battle - K66 gave me the first by spinning it a reasonable distance from the hole. We both lipped out for eagles on #2. We tied #3, #4 and #5, the next hole of any interest was #6 I made an 8ft putt for eagle, and K's was at the back of the green, on the higher level. I honestly felt I was going to be 2up, but no K dropped it in The B9 we were shot for shot - K66 drove #15 and made his eagle, I was in the rough/fringe near the bunker. We were back to A/S. We both eagled #16, birdied #17, and it came down to #18, the par 5. I managed to spin my ball onto the green from the fringe and I think K ended up in the bunker. I won the last with an eagle. Fantastic match Jesse

thanx and sorry KK, my connection, etc. is usually rock solid and problem-free.

Tman however showed me how the game should be played and was unlucky not to break 50 Well done Tman a 4 and 2 win thourally deserved. Jim Confirmed. This match really came down to a couple of lip out putts for Jim on the front 9. I made the turn at 3 up but it was much closer than that. The first one came at the short par 4 with the large drop in elevation. I hit my tee shot to 6 feet while Jim was on the upper plateau with a tough putt. He hit a great putt that just caught the edge and stayed out. Later on a par 3 he had another just miss. Without these my decision making might change on a few holes leading to a few more errors. Thanks for the match Jim. You hit some great shots. It was nice to meet up for my inaugural Giacomo Cup match. Good luck to everyone still to play! TMan

G-Cup
kenw vs PrioscatWe had 14mph winds the entire rd! - We match shot for shot on holes 1 and 2. - Hole 3 (P5) we both drive the same bunker and follow up with crappy shots to make par. - Hole 4: 2 birds ( me and PC lol) - Hole 5 PC has issues while I get a thumper that is 3 feet away. ken up1 - Hole 6 and 7: we match shots - Hole 8: I birdie the P3 to PC's par. kenw 2 up - Hole 9: birds each -Hole 10 thru 15 we match shots. kenw up 2 - Hole 16: I make the eagle to Pc's bird. kenw up3 - Holes 17 and 18: we match shot for shot. I missed both D4's on the B9, but PC struggled with his putter. Sadly, PC struggled with putts most of the rd and that proved to be the difference. Officially: kenw 3&2 over PCgreat time PC!! -ken

Cosmicsheep v Tazman / ALL SQUARE
Well we left our game late but we ended up honours shared. I fell behind on the front 9 and was 2 down at the turn. I thought it was game over but an eagle by me on 15 narrowed the gap and then I tied it up with eagle on 18; taz also found the green on 18 but it looked like he had a putting mishap and came up short for birdie.

Congrats to all who participated in the G-cup! Your captains (mark and kenw) had a $1200 bet that our respective team would win it. Since WiiGA won, make has paid me $1200. Because it was a team event, and further more, I don't need it kenw has given $100 to each player for the WiiGA team. Well done gents and I look forward to another G-cup event in the future! -ken
