SkinniePost asked a question in another thread:
G,
Also, while you are workin on this problem, could you find out how much it would cost to increase the allowable chat room size... a couple of nites recently we have been close to filling the screen. This is ultimately a great thing... but we are worried that some people might be getting blocked out in the future. I'm willing to make a donation to cover part of cost, but don't think that a dues system is feasible. We could ask for charitable donations, I know others are willing to chip in what they feel comfortable with... Just a though, thinkin ahead before it becomes a problem... This place is just to darn popular, and some of us a still actively recruiting new members
Later,
SkinniePost
The short answer is: the free version has a concurrent user limit of 25. To expand our usage would cost $80/year. The cost is not prohibitive, but the logistics are problematic to say the least.
I have thought about just donating the cost. Fortunately, this would be absolutely no problem for me as an individual. The real question is how replicable and sustainable it is. While I have no intention of getting hit by a truck any time soon, I'm no spring chicken, and my physical status won't qualify me for the NFL. Will I be engaged in the WiiGA this way in a year? If my intentions count, yes, and therefore the second year would be covered. But assuming that will all work is foolishness. And at some point it is inevitable that the WiiGA will have to sustain the cost-based chat without me. Do we continuously look for a donor?
Asking me or SkinniePost to absorb the cost isn't necessarily unfair, since we're willing; but it isn't a permanent or sustainable solution for an association.
I would say that we have a couple of alternative approaches we could consider; and I'd like other members who want to discuss this to add their ideas and reactions:
Let me know what you think and, particularly, please add some more ideas!

- Use volunteer donors from the membership. I volunteer, SkinniePost volunteers. We can make a list and pin it to it's own board. This could have multiple applications- paying for chat or other cost-based requirements we encounter; obtaining volunteers to create recognition certificates or even try to obtain small value awards; or other actions that would advance the WiiGA that would require unusual time, talent, or financial cost that could only be obtained through volunteers.
- Look for other chat tools that might be used. This would require help from someone more technical than I am.
- Use a sign-up sheet for chat, limit 25.
- Other?
Let me know what you think and, particularly, please add some more ideas!
