Hi, I can't get in the chat room on my mobile or PS3. The chat room log-in icon is missing. I realise this is to do with Java. Is it possible to download something to make it work? Can't seem to find any thing. My computer is upstairs so its difficult running up and down stairs to congratulate a great shot! Hope someone can help. Cheers, Shaun

Hey, Skinnie- I'd be interested in anything you know on this, too. I have an Android phone and can't get into chat on it, but would like to. Is there any known Java that would work? Or are we limited to computers?
Just wondering---

Alright here is the deal on Mobile Chat functions... To my understanding you need the Java Runtime Environment... This can be downloaded from Java for free, but here is the catch... To actually install it on an Iphone, Droid or any other mobile phone, would probably require you to crack/jailbreak the phone first. I experimented with this years ago on an old Palm device... It worked fine then, but the disconnect is related to the fact that I was running a Java based application that was actually downloaded onto the Palm, not a Web based application. I have tried with both my Palm Pre and my Ipod Touch, with no luck I would imagine that there might be some backdoor way to do it with a Android phone, but you run the risk of breaking the phone and/or ruining any warranty... Sort of like loading HomeBrew on your Wii system. I will look into it further, but don't look forward to a favorable response, as my preliminary research has not unearthed anything helpful yet. SkinniePost Addendum... I have heard that some other applications that allow you to Chat via Facebook, etc. may actually add the required Java Runtime Environment as part of the program. This might be one way to get the Java Mobile on the phone without doing anything extreme... More to come

"All webOS devices have Java ME or Micro Edition installed. This is a specially designed Java that is optimized for all mobile platforms. Applications needing a specific version of Java (v6 for example) are not designed to run on the mobile variant, and may not run correctly or at all."
Found this related to my Palm Pre... Looks like the basic problem is the Chat Room is not designed to run on Java ME (i.e. Java Mobile Environment). The phone or other mobile device would need the full blown version of Java that our desktops and laptops use (Version 6, I believe).
And the research will continue...
Later, SkinniePost
