Would you play a round of real golf with a pitching wedge with a bent shaft? Or with a putter your 3 year old dragged down the driveway face down leaving it looking like a waffle iron?
I’ve noticed an interesting phenomenon lately where I’ll go 2 days and not lose a match then 2 days where I couldn’t beat my dog chewing on a Wiimote. As you might expect this was quite frustrating. I was blaming everything from diabolical computer programmers to my wife’s very valid protestations that I am playing way too much. So what’s going on here?
Well our Wii’s come with 2 Wiimotes. I started to think, “Maybe I’m winning with one and losing with the other”. Weak, huh? But wait. I do play with one Wiimote until the battery drains (usually about 2 days…hmmm) and then play with the other until the battery drains. So a little engineering* and voila. I noticed that one of the Wiimotes rattles when I shake it and the other does not. Clearly something is loose inside the device. Now this rattling could be the result of the Wiimote flying into the wall after a loss to Makeitso or, more likely, I recall one of the kids dropping it on the tile floor during a handoff in a 4 way game of Wii bowling. Long story short. Since this discovery I have only played with the non-rattling Wiimote and am back to my winning ways.
Anyway, I’m off to the local Best Buy to purchase new “clubs” today. My advice, check your equipment from time to time, especially if you’re Wiimotes have a tendency to fly themselves into walls periodically.
*Engineering- shaking the Wiimote while holding it close to my ear.
