Some of you may have noticed that TheJokker has climbed up the ranks of the Leader Board a few clicks. During the last few days I have been testing out a theory that I can now say is correct.
I have been testing to find out if the outcome of a match can have different amounts of skill points. Say you are playing a level 1 player for example, how many times have you received ZERO points for your match ? If you try what I am about to explain . . . that will NEVER happen again . . . NO B.S.
First off, I would like to point out that this posting is mainly for our latest BIG DOGS in the ranks of the WiiGA, yes I am talking about you Batman & oregonducks, as well as several others. Even if you are currently ranked #2 DavidDuval . . . this will be of benefit to you as well.
I am posting this tip for our members here at the WiiGA, I will not be posting this on the EA forum. It is intended for our members who are welcome to share this with any of they're friends. It will certainly become common knowledge at some point, but for now it is simply to help our members climb the ranks faster and to help maintain your rankings when you acheive them. As I know probably better than most . . . it is very frustrating to take a couple loses and spend the next couple weeks trying to get your skill points back.
As we all understand . . . the higher level you reach . . . the slower the skill points come. And if you happen to lose a match . . . the more skill points you lose. It is not a very fair system . . . lose one match . . . have to win 10 or more matches to get your skill points back sometimes.
Somebody had originally mentioned this in the chat room a few weeks back, so I decided to find out if it was true, which it is, much to my surprise.
This whole skill point system is very frustrating at times, especially when you are approaching or exceded level 20. It is a very lop-sided system and it is surely not very fair either. It almost seems to indicate that EA wants you to hit the leader board . . . then fall off again to make room for others. That is the only conclusion I can come to after playing this system for a while.
Anyways . . . time for this VERY SIMPLE tip
When you are playing a match with a less skilled player than yourself, don't run away with the match. Instead of winning a match by 10 strokes . . . keep it under 5 strokes . . . its that simple. I have defeated other players by as many as 50 strokes . . . guess how many points I received . . . ZERO !
When I play matches now days, I get up by a comfortable amount of strokes and then just simply match stroke for stroke through the rest of the match until the 18th hole. On the 18th hole I will throw however many strokes I need to in order to only win by one or 2 strokes, then I get WAY more points after the match. I was so amazed at how much this changed I am still startled.
I am currently level 26, I played a guy who was level 15 and received 26 skill points, WOW ! I got up by 3 strokes (my comfort zone) and just matched strokes until the 18th hole where I threw 2 more strokes to win by only one stroke. I was so startled to see how many points I got for that I decided to continue testing this for a few more matches. I got 8 skill points from a level 1 player, normally I am lucky if I get ANY points from a level 1 player.
I should also point out that I try to do this with some respect for my opponent as to NOT make it to obvious what I am doing. If I hit the green and line up my putt . . . hit preview . . . and it shows in the cup for birdie. . . then I wait to see his shot. If he settles for a par . . . then I let the clock expire before I take my putt. If it really goes bad for my opponent . . . then I will take a few bunkers or a splash down if available.
Your comfort zone may be different than my comfort zone of 2 or 3 strokes. Perhaps you wanna get up by 5 or 6 strokes in case you go swimming or your opponent gets a streak of AHO. There is obviously a bit of risk in doing this, gotta consider who your opponent is before you decide what your comfort zone is. I would NEVER get up by more than 7 strokes though . . . you can always throw them strokes off on the 18th hole unless it is to much.
There is another reason why you should consider this approach to your matches as well. How many new players do you think have sold they're disc after a few matches where they get totally CREAMED by they're opponents before they have a chance to learn how to play ? Perhaps if we keep our matches a bit closer then some of them would develope into great players and perhaps even join our WiiGA League and become our friends.
There is no doubt in my mind that I have thrown away hundreds of skill point . . . perhaps thousands . . . from all those matches where I have won by more than 10 strokes. I have had so many matches where I received ZERO points I could not even try to count them. I got EIGHT points from a level 1 player . . . that has NEVER happened before !
The preferred win would be a stroke or two, NEVER 10 or more strokes !
Good luck dudes, CLIMB THE RANKS !
