after reading scattered bits of tips and such regarding the tour pro swings of all the players, i decided to make a thread for everyone to post their strategies.
to all newcomers of TW pga tour- if you have never played this game before, do not attempt to play it at the highest level of difficulty. half of being successful at tour pro is knowing the courses and where to take risks and where to play it safe. practice the game and the courses many times over before you attempt to remove the aids and use this very difficult swing style.
how i swing (your results may vary)- the best advice i can give short of showing video of how to do it, is imagine you have to hit all full power swings with a putter. bend your knees and lean over the virtual ball as much as you can. hold B, and bring the controller back behind your head to a full stop. from here is where all the system monitoring happens. you need to lock your wrists so they dont rotate and start the swing. your front elbow should lock at just after halfway down and your back arm should steer the wiimote straight over the virtual ball. its impossible to hit dead aim every swing, but heres the contact results and how they are corrected. fix these problems one at a time in this order by using the practice swings and then hit your shot.
ball contact indicator: the ball is divided into 3 parts. the part you hit will flash yellow. your back arm is resposible for making contact at the right spot (center)
in to out/out to in- this is the number you see in the middle of the info. adjust the top of your backswing's position in or out, depending on which way you need to correct. use the same spot for every backswing to work out your body's natural tendancy. try moving the wiimote in front of your head or behind it before your downswing, until this number gets lower than 3 degrees.
angle- this is the hardest thing to keep accurate. it is all in the motion of your wrists, and forearms. your front wrist is responsible for keeping the back wrist in line as they should move in unison. ive recently begun experimenting with adjustming my wrists to add intentional draw and fade, but its very difficult and im sending shots at too wide of angles at about 40%. too high and if anyone has any suggestions on this, please list them!!!thanks in advance!!!!
hope this helps MYG

Hey Gunny ....
I have taken all your insight into my TPX swing with good success. Now the practice, practice, practice begins.
A question for you .... Have you experimented with "virtual ball" position ... (i.e. further or closer to your feet - forward or back in your stance)?
You describe the top of the swing (moving from the front of the head, to the back - or vice versa) as a measure for ball striking angle. I assume this all starts with being directly over the ball as much as you can. I have a tendancy to drift my downswing too much if starting my down swing from a totally alien top position.
I have minor success positioning the ball further away from my feet, but usually with a straight push to my right (not a fade or slice) just straight.
Thanks for your insight on tour pro - I am having more fun playing that swing since I started TW10 last fall.
Thanks Guns .....

WOW i thought it was the ALIENS who did the probing Good luck with the tour swing...those of you that have adopted that swing are really coming along and I have a lot of respect for you!! Keep up the good work and sharing the tips! It has been a blast playing teams on the Skinnie TV NETWORK where 2 guys play that style and 2 ams play. UH OH its Tuesday that means I gotta pull out the Motion PLUS and tackle the daily pro....PLUS 30 here I come!

Great post MYG...
I will record my current Tour Pro swing, which now includes almost zero break in my wrist... I just rock backwards at the waist and pivot like a pendulum... I barely even generate any club speed and still hit 100% every time. I'm sure I look like an idiot, but it works well... I usually have an square club face, and a swing that varies from 0 to 4 degrees outside to inside... So I have to play a slight amount of fade in my set-up, but not much... I have even started getting a hand full of shots per game that are straight and square ;D
Peace, Skinnie:P

I am able to generate about a shoulder high backswing so I'm wondering if this would work using your method and get 90% + power on the driver. If you use the preview on purchased swings I can generate a backswing like Dr. Smyth's which is what I use now using m-. Where can I see your swing? Vern

I continue to use about the same swing I use for standard settings. I use a one handed swing (at least for now) and also do not have to swing hard at all. I'm probably a 30 degree angle above my shoulder for the backswing and then its a very smooth motion forward. I generally hit it straight (no slice or hook) but with a little bit of a push to one side or the other due to O/I or I/O swing. I have a slight wrist break at the very end of my swing, but it's not like I'm snapping it. I'm not nearly as good as SP or MYG, but I'm also not really having any problems with the swing.

A question for you .... Have you experimented with "virtual ball" position ... (i.e. further or closer to your feet - forward or back in your stance)? i find that 4-8 inches in front of my feet is the ideal spot. moving the ball further out usually leads to imperfections (according to the system), and i start to spray the ball all over.
You describe the top of the swing (moving from the front of the head, to the back - or vice versa) as a measure for ball striking angle. I assume this all starts with being directly over the ball as much as you can. I have a tendancy to drift my downswing too much if starting my down swing from a totally alien top position. if you are having an i/o or o/i swing problem, than this is the best way to correct it. it would be very hard to modify your swing while in motion, so adjusting this still postion is easier. if you are not experiencing i/o or o/i over 5 degrees consistantly, you dont need to use this adjustment. if you are getting 10 degrees in to out often (RH), try moving your top of your backswing outward from your head a little, if out to in pull your hands in toward your head. this should negate the effects of the arc you are creating during your swing.
let me know if this helps! MYG

next lesson: working without draw/fade handles
Next on the list of things to cover in TPX, is how to draw or fade your shots around obstacles. there is 2 ways to do this without too much difficulty. first is using the in to out or out to in system. you can add draw or fade to your shot by intentionally swinging inward or outward as needed for the shot. keep in mind that this creates more of a straighter line of flight and is only useful for clearing obstacles that are at least 50% of your shot distance away from where you are hitting the shot. using this to bend a shot around a tree 60 yards away with a 3 iron probably wont work, but this is a viable option from the tee! 15 degrees of in to out (RH) will help you navigate longer drives from the tee on courses like bay hill and sheshan. second is using your wrists to turn the clubface angle to add draw or fade. this takes a bit of practice, and hitting consistant degrees needed for accurate shots is tougher to do, but it is very rewarding. this creates the "hook" or arc needed to wrap shots around obstacles. work on hitting 5-15 degrees of open or closed club face to keep a perspective of what will happen when you try to hit the draw or fade. this will help you to aim your shots as you will have a good idea of where the ball will end up when you attempt to use this strategy.
next on my list is- putting and the formulas of fast greens! stay tuned!

Putting-
before i explain the strategy for putting, id like to let everyone know that this is the weakest part of my game. anything outside of 25 ft is a 50/50 shot for me usually, and id like to let the readers know that my tips may not be for everyone. if you have a strategy that works bettter, or see anything in the following that you disagree with, please post it! these tips are for m+ precision putting, and can be applied to any swing type.
elevation change-to gauge the effects of elevation on your putt, you will need to keep a couple things in mind. 1 block of putting grid=1 foot of elevation change. this means that if you need to add more power for a up 1 foot putt, you need to move the aimer back behind the hole 1 full grid block. if the putt is 4" foot lower, move the aimer a third of a block closer to your golfer. this will change the power% needed for the shot.
speed-in TW11 there are 3 speeds that you will find most often. depending on the speed, you will need to make a few calculations to get the correct % needed to get the ball to the hole. the default % given when you place your aimer on the hole, is the speed used by normal greens. fast greens require a multiplier of .75 and very fast greens require a multiplier of .5 to get the % needed to get the correct power.
break- this is gauged by the moving dashes on the grid lines, and it is the hardest thing to get used to. only practice will help you to read them, and there is no mathematical way to calculate their effect on your putt.
lag-when faced with a long putt with little probability of dropping, your main goal should be to lag the putt (get it close enough for a tap-in on the next shot). using the 3 steps listed above, you should be able to do this with regularity. here is an example of how to lag putt using the above tips.
your putt is 34feet away 7inches down- first, adjust for the elevation change. in this case its 7 inches down, so move the aimer about 1/2 a grid block closer to your golfer. next is the speed. lets say this green is very fast. the % after the elevation adjustment is 47%. muliply 47 by .5 and we get 28.5%. this is amount of power needed to make the putt if there is no break. BUT there is a slight right to left break here. adjust the aimer to the right about 3/4 a grid block. since we are putting downhill, you wont need to make a % adjustment for the distance added by the break. swing the putter back on the putt meter to 28.5% and give it a firm swing. the putt should end up within a foot of the cup, or better-in the cup.
gimmies-anything within 20% of your power range is a gimmie...unless there is a tremendous side to side slope. in which case, its no gimmie. but if there is little break, you can usually bang these putts home by swinging the putter at 25% to create a pretty straight line into the hole. if your left with a 14% putt (on any speed green) just move the aim an inch to compensate for the break, and smack it home with a 25% swing. this is not enough power to make the ball jump out the other side of the cup, unless you are inches away-in which case, just use 20%. beware though- failure to compensate enough for the break, may cause your ball to go way past the hole, so always assess the risk/reward of the situation before you use this technique.
true view-many player state that the system incorrectly reads the swing path of your putter in this mode. i agree. when the backswing requires power over 50% the front swing usually misses the ball, even though i swing in a perfectly straight line. to counter this, i swing in a horseshoe pattern. the backswing is out from my feet and i bring the remote into my feet when i swing forward. ive heard other types of simliar problems, but this is how i handle it.

Hello guys I just got the game a couple days ago. This is actually the first Wii game I've had. I've been playing golf on Wii Play on my sisters Wii and got pretty good ad I have to say that this is quite a bit different. Now. I have golfed in real life before so I now how to play the game.
I just can't keep a constant swing going. It seems like every time I hit it about 10 degrees closed. I am using the standard swinging difficulity. Right now, I stand over the ball, bend my knees a little bit, take a half swing, #2 pencil my wrists so I get full power and follow through. I usually get 100% power but my accuracy is not that good. I have also tried doing a complete swing. I bring it all the way back and let my hands touch my head then follow through. I make sure that I try and take the remote back slowly.
Now putting is where I suck at right now. I use the classic putting mode. For putting, I stand facing the TV. When I swing, I stand normal. My power is always off. Like if it's a 5 feet put my thing says 100% power. I take my putter all the way back so the meter is full and take a slow follow through.
Again, any other tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

My TPX swing goes like this: 1. Start with front foot in front of back foot by about one foot. This step eliminates my natural outside-to-inside swing. If you have a natural in-to-out swing, you want to start with your front foot behind your back foot. My weight is placed on my front foot as well. 2. Hold down B and place the virtual ball about six inches in front of your front foot. I place it so far ahead in order to eliminate shanks--since I used to shank the outside of the ball (causing a duck hook), I moved the ball further out; if you shank the inside (a wild slice), you want to move the ball closer to your body. 3. Start the swing by moving my arms almost parallel to my front foot/leg to the inside of my body. At this point the wiimote is right on top of the heel of my front foot. Again, this step makes sure the swing plane will be straight. 4. Continue like a real golf swing: Straighten your back knee and bend your front knee just a bit. Move your arms back above your shoulders, bending your back elbow in to your body and keeping your front elbow straight. At this point, my chin is just about resting on my front shoulder. 5. Finish your swing by moving your arms straight back through your club plane. I actually swing harder in TPX than in AM and PRO. My club face isn't consistently open or closed and doesn't really affect my swing much (unless I hit it 10 degrees closed ), so I don't know how to fix your club face if it's off. Your best bet would be to do what MYG suggested in the original post...stop at the top of your backswing, open or close your wrists, and finish your swing.
